The Dark Side of the Planetarium

Well, you’ve seen the title and if you follow me on instagram you might have seen that I went to Brasov’s planetarium to check out the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon show.

It is basically an audition of the whole album with pretty images and videos from space. And what amazing that was.

You might also know that I am a PF fan for a while now and I have to say that DSOTM is not my fave album. Don’t start a rumble now, it is in my top 3 though, but The Division Bell is my favorite. Followed by DSOTM and then The Wall.

I am not sure how well will have the visuals fit with these others 2 album, but it worked perfectly for DSOTM. You are mesmerized by the visuals while enjoying the music. You anticipate what song will be next and just wait to be amazed.

DSOTM is not about space actually, it was intended to be an allusion to a journey into madness and dealing with the mental health problems that Syd Barret had faced. He had already departed for 4 years when this was released.

50 years ago this album came out. 50! And it’s still a masterpiece. Let me hit you with some stats and facts.

  1. over 45 millions of copies sold
  2. the 4th album sold of all time
  3. the album was almost called Eclipse due to a copyright issue with another album.
  4. in 1972 the band played it live and then later recorded it at Abbey Road in London.
  5. on Eclipse you can hear an instrumental, muzak version of Ticket to Ride by the Beatles being played in the background; that’s because it was playing probably while they were recording DSOTM

If you like Pink Floyd, you should go to a show like this one, I checked google and there are a few still available worldwide.
